Theta Gamma wins Efficiency
award for 2000-01
[8.5.01 VINCENNES, IN] For the second
time in three years, Theta Gamma was awarded an Efficiency Award
from Sigma Pi, International. The award was presented to the chapter
at a ceremony at Sigma Pi University in Vincennes and came as
a pleasant addition to the week's festivities. Past Sage Matthew
Ford is especially pleased, as the award recognizes the chapter's
work during his year as Sage. "I'm particularly happy that we
made it under my watch," said Ford, "It was one of our goals and
it really is something that should come automatically, provided
everyone does his job. Thankfully, enough of the jobs were completed
a timely manner and the hard work paid off." The annual Efficiency
Awards recognize chapters that attain over 800 efficiency points
for the year. While Theta Gamma was recognized for achieving over
800 points, Sigma Pi Headquarters gives even more special recognition
to chapters achieving over 1,000 points in a year. Past Sage Ford
wants this award for the chapter next year and encourages his
successors in this endeavor, "There should be no reason not to
get the maximum amount of efficiency points. All you have to do
is your job as officers, and things will fall into place."
Six from Theta Gamma complete
2001 Sigma Pi University
[8.5.01 LIVINGSTON] Brothers Scott Masterson
('02), Jason Till ('03), David Laster ('04), Rob Dial ('02), Kevin
Thirsk ('02), and Kyle Tucker ('01) returned from Sigma
Pi's biennial leadership school with a renewed excitement for
the upcoming year. This year's "Sig Pi U" was the first opportunity
for most of the brothers to experience Sigma Pi on the international
level, as they met and got to know brothers from across the continent.
The brothers got to spend time in the historic Shadowwood and
Rose Hill Farmstead and re-live the annals of Sigma Pi history.
One particular historic piece is Theta Gamma's own petition to
charter, which is on display in Shadowwood along with other notable
petitions. The guys also were able to see the finished Memorial
Clock Tower and the Theta Gamma Brick, which was bought by the
chapter in '99 to help complete the structure. Other special events
held were a model initiation, an etiquette dinner, the Shadowwood
Barbeque, and a dinner featuring Vincennes University President
Bryan Blanchard (PKF) as the keynote speaker.
Brother John McLemore
Named Head Cheerleader
[8.1.01 LIVINGSTON] Brother John McLemore
('02) was named Head Cheerleader of the UWA Tigers Cheerleading
squad for the 2001-02 season, along with Miss Amanda Massey ('04)
of Mississippi. Brother McLemore is returning for his third season
to the squad and brings a considerable wealth of experience to
the Tiger cheerleaders. Brother Scott Gray ('02) is also returning
for his second season on the squad and he is very pleased with
the decision. "John definitely has the leadership qualities that
is needed to help make this season a success," said Gray, "the
squad and I have full confidence in him."
Theta Gamma crew heads
to Vincennes for SP
University
[8.1.01 LIVINGSTON] Six brothers from
Theta Gamma left Livingston on August 1 for "Sigma Pi University"
at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. Sigma Pi University
is Sigma Pi's biennial leadership school designed to develop leadership
among chapter ranks. The school is conducted over four days and
includes numerous seminars and workshops covering a variety of
topics and issues that fraternities and their members deal with.
Rush, Hazing, Chapter Finance, and Leadership Development are
among the programs offered. "Sig Pi U" also is a great opportunity
for brothers to exchange ideas and fellowship. "Sig Pi U"
includes a golf tourney, opening reception, a barbeque and an
initiation for brothers to participate in. This year will be the
largest group from Theta Gamma to attend leadership school. The
brothers going are Scott Masterson ('02), Jason Till ('03), David
Laster ('04), Rob Dial ('02), Kevin Thirsk ('02), and Kyle
Tucker ('01). Sigma Pi University will conclude on August 5.
2nd Annual Orchid Ball
[4.15.01 LIVINGSTON] The 2001 Orchid
Ball was held in Montgomery on April 13. Brothers and their
dates traveled to the Embassy Suites in historic downtown Montgomery.
The evening's festivities began with an opening reception and
cocktails. Past Sage Matthew Ford was on hand to give the
invocation. Sage Scott Masterson concluded the dinner with
a speech and presented the Chapter's annual awards. The
men and their lovely dates capped off the event by dancing well
into the night, as Mock Mockler entertained hotel guests with
some lovely piano music by the fountains.

[4.12.01 LIVINGSTON] Sigma Pi won the
James P. Homer Award for the second year in a row. The Homer
Award is given to the best overall Greek organization. This
year, Sigma Pi shared the award with Phi Mu and was awarded at
the 2001 Greek Awards Banquet on April 12.
Sigma Pi Continues to
Lead in UWA Student Government

[4.12.01 LIVINGSTON] Once again, Brothers
from Theta Gamma are leading the student body at The University
of West Alabama. In April, brothers David Fortner ('03) and Michael
Greene ('03) joined the growing list of Pi's on the Executive
Board of UWA's Student Government Association. Brother Fortner
was elected SGA Business Manager and Brother Greene was elected
SGA Secretary for 2001-02. Sigma Pi has had brothers in the SGA
Senate in each year of its existence at UWA all the way back to
1996. Also, Pi's have served on the SGA Executive in each of its
years as a chapter at UWA. Brothers on that list include Joseph
Schell ('99), who was Business Manager in 1998-99, Timothy Goode
('01), who was Secretary in Spring Semester '99 and in 1999-2000,
Matthew Ford ('00), who was President in 1999-2000, and Scott
Gray ('02), who was Secretary in 2000-01.
Hard work pays off at
Greek Awards Banquet
[4.12.01 LIVINGSTON] The Chapter enjoyed
a sweep of sorts at the Greek Awards Banquet on April 12.
Sigma Pi captured the Intramural Cup points championship, having
mathematically eliminated the rest of the competition before the
softball tournament even began. Sigma Pi has finished in
the top two every year since its arrival at UWA, including first
place in 1998. Also adding to the evening's enjoyment was
the Greek Games Cup, which Sigma Pi won for the first time since
1998. The crown of the evening's festivities was the Homer
Award. Sigma Pi just barely missed the fourth leg of the
annual "quadruple" crown, the highest GPA award, which was taken
home by the Prestigious Pi Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Inc. Sigma Pi finished a respectable and extremely close
third place in that category.

held its initiation for Brother Will Geiger. The Chapter
also installed its 2001-02 officers. Congratulations Will!
