Sweetheart Elected for 2007 Fall Semester

The sweetheart for the Fall semester of 2007 is Laurice Brooker. She graduated from Demopolis High School in 2004 and is currently a Junior at the University of West Alabama majoring in Elementary Education. Congratulations Laurice and thank you for all of your hard work for the Fraternity!

3 Sigma Pi Brothers Accepted into Omicron Delta Kappa Membership

[LIVINGSTON] Brothers Kaylan McDuff, Daniel Bryars, and Jamie Parker have been tapped for membership into Omicron Delta Kappa. All three were selected out of a competitive group of candidates on being the newest members of ODK. Omicron Delta Kappa is a National Leadership honor society that honors university students on high academic achievement while being some of the most distinguished leaders on campus. These brothers are very involved in campus activities while holding important positions within the fraternity and maintaining a high GPA. They join a long line of Sigma Pi membership into ODK.

Sigma Pi Wins Homer (again), Re-captures GPA Crown

[4.19.05 - LIVINGSTON] Tuesday night marked the end of another successful year for Sigma Pi, who walked away with some big awards at the 2005 Greek Banquet. Once again, the James P. Homer Award, which recognizes the best overall Greek organization, went to Sigma Pi. This marks the fifth Homer in six years for Sigma Pi.

The Homer Award is named for the late James P. Homer. Dean Homer served Livingston for many years as an executive vice-president as well as the Greek advisor. Sigma Pi won its first Homer Award in 1999-2000, in only its second year of eligibility. Sigma Pi first became eligible after it was chartered in October of 1998, and has since won the award in five of the seven years in which it was eligible.

Sigma Pi also won the Highest GPA Award, sharing the honor with the Prestigious Pi Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha. This is also the fifth time Sigma Pi has won the GPA title since the chapter became eligible for the award in 1997. The chapter won the award in 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2002.

The chapter also saw one of its own receive a special award. Outgoing president Danny Hyche received the Brian J. Scott Award, which is given to the best all-around Greek male. The award is named in honor of the late Brian Scott. Scott, who passed away in 2003, was an outstanding UWA student and member of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Hyche is leaving his term seeing the most successful year for Sigma Pi yet. The accolades represent the culmination of a year's worth of hard work and dedication. The chapter has continued to excel in every area of Greek life, including academics, philanthropy, athletics, and brotherhood. The night's awards are a fitting conclusion to the school year, considering the enormous work that Brothers have put into living out the ideals of Sigma Pi.

Not only are Sigma Pi's involved in every area of campus life from academics to athletics, but they are leaders. Sigma Pi continues its leadership and involvement into the 2005-06 school year, as brothers can be found in nearly every honor society, academic club, and student organization on campus. Brother Jamie Parker will serve as IFC president and Kaylan McDuff will follow Hyche as next year's SGA president, becoming the third Sigma Pi to hold the office in six years.

Sigma Pi's presence and leadership on campus is quite a remarkable feat, considering that most [if not all] of the brothers work jobs, on top of their academic loads as full-time students. However, the end of all of the hard work is not seen in plaques or honors - the end is in the realization of the Sigma Pi Ideals of service, scholarship, chivalry and brotherhood. The chapter looks forward to yet another successful year in 2005-06.

Danny Hyche named Best All-Around Greek Male

[4.19.05 - LIVINGSTON] Danny Hyche was honored at the 2005 Greek Banquet with the Brian J. Scott Award. The award, which is given to the best all-around Greek male, is named in honor of the late Brian J. Scott. Scott, who passed away in 2003, was an outstanding UWA student and member of Kappa Alpha Psi.

This is not the first time he has been individually recognized for his service. Earlier this year, Danny was named Mr. UWA. Also, in 2004, Hyche was awarded by Sigma Pi Fraternity, International, with the Harold Jacobsen Award. The Jacobsen Award recognizes outstanding leadership that an undergraduate brother provides on campus at his college or university during the last biennium.

The award is named for Harold Jacobsen, who served Sigma Pi for many years as Executive Director and was also an early leader in the National Interfraternity Conference. This award is considered the top award for undergraduates, and is given out to only one brother of Sigma Pi during a biennium, regardless of the size of his chapter.

Danny also was awarded with the Walter H. Lemmond, Jr. Scholarship in 2004. Hyche has served the past year as both the president of Sigma Pi and the Student Government Association.

Jamie Parker elected IFC President

[LIVINGSTON] - Brother Jamie Parker was elected IFC President today.

Jamie was also recently elected as the SGA Treasurer.

Kaylan McDuff elected SGA President

[LIVINGSTON] - Brother Kaylan McDuff of Eutaw, AL, was elected as the new Student Government Association's President for the upcoming 2005-2006 term.

Kaylan serves as Vice President for the Sigma Pi chapter.

In addition to Sigma Pi and SGA duties, McDuff is a member of the Blue Key Honor Fraternity, a Dean�s List Scholar and vice president of the Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society, UWA Ambassador, and a resident assistant.

Oozeball 2005 is a great success

Oozeball 2005 was another huge success for Sigma Pi. The chapter held it's 8th annual Oozeball tournament on March 15, 2005. The annual mud volleyball tournament helped raise money for the American Red Cross - this year the chapter donated $1,000. This year, teams competed for the Oozeball Cup that will be displayed in Webb Hall.

The winners of the event were the Aces. Team members include: Matt Lavender, Laramie Cooke, Leigh Russell, Angela Alexander, Lee Turner and Lindsay Marine.

Brother Danny Hyche voted Mr. UWA

[LIVINGSTON] - Sigma Pi President Danny Hyche was voted Mr. UWA by the students at The University of West Alabama. Danny also serves as SGA President and is a University Hall Director.

Brother Danny Hyche awarded Harold Jacobson award

[CHICAGO - 08/09/04] - At the Sigma Pi Convocation, brother Danny Hyche was awarded the prestigous Harold Jacobson award. This individual award is presented in recognition of the outstanding leadership an undergraduate brother provides on campus at his college or university during the last biennium. This award considered the top award for undergraduates, is given out to only one brother of Sigma Pi, one man out of many, no matter the size of the chapter.

Danny also was awarded a regional scholarship called the Walter H. Lemmond, Jr. Scholarship.
